(Almost) Final

Here is what I presented for our Final Thesis Critiques. There is still a lot of work to be done. The shots need more variation and timing & continuity need improvement.

The critics loved the look, but couldn’t follow the story so it’s back to the cutting room and render hell for me!

Beginning Scenes

Render Hell continues…definitely scorching hot in here. Below is a final render with some compositing in After Effects. Still some tweaks and edits because it looks too CG. Maybe add some grain or blur? Still have to render out a depth pass… Audio is not final either! But…

Intro/Opening Credits Pre-Viz Animatic

The idea here is to establish the father/son relationship for the story. The father is adjusting the camera to take a picture of him and Max in front of Banana King. The father gets impatient when the photo doesn’t take and starts to get angry. And of course the camera takes a photo at that instant.

Render Hell

Rendering takes about 4 minutes a frame at 1280×720. At this point whenever I’m not home, my computer needs to be rendering. Below is a test render before any compositing…the jungle still needs a little work.
I expect to run three passes:
1) Beauty
2) Ambient Occlusion
3) Depth.

Pre-Viz Animatic (Version 4)

The last one…I think. I didn’t render the roof because it is fur and would have taken too long! This is just visually rough so I can get the timing down.

Jungle foliage will be created by rendering images w/alpha and sticking them on planes around the shop.

Re-recording voice overs this Friday!

Midterm Pre-Viz Animatic (Version 3)

In this animatic I have added more suitable monkey dialog, as well as Max’s tag on the bananas. The midterm crits enjoyed the animatic, however it was noted that the story and the father-son relationship need more clarification.
